A tongue-in-cheek question from the Metropolitan Police in Reykjavík, asking the Icelandic Meteorological Office to prolong a spell of sunshine, got an unexpected and rather flat answer No, was the reply from the Met Office's official Facebook page.

The Metropolitan Police in Reykjavík is known for being active on social media. On the department's Instagram account, officers have posted picture of themselves cuddling animals and the site occasionally indulges in friendly banter with its followers.

It was therefore not unusual for the police to tag the Met Office in a Facebook post on Wednesday asking it if there was a chance of extending the sunny weather for a few more days. It didn't take the Met Office long to give its blunt reply.
