According to Stöð 2 News, conceptual site plans for the highland area north of Mýdalsjökull glacier detail the camping site and guest lodges be moved away from the heart of Landmannalaugar hot springs. The idea has sparked a thread of conflicting viewpoints regarding the area and its future.
A design competition for the area is scheduled to take place soon.
“By moving the camping site and guest lodge we hope to regain Landmannalaugar as it was before, and by that I mean the beauty and tranquillity of the place,” explained Kristinn Guðnason, a member of the committee which oversees future planning of the area, in an interview with Channel 2 News yesterday.
