The first real winter storm does not only affect humans: The feathered fauna of Reykjavík is also feeling the effects.
The local news site Stundin.is reports that at least ten small birds have sought refuge in a downtown 10-11 supermarket. Customers and staff at the store, which is located by Austurstræti street, by the main square in downtown Reykjavík, counted at least ten small birds inside the store. The store manager, Guðmundur Hafsteinsson, told Stundin that the birds appeared to have slipped in to escape the cold outside. A reporter for Stundin.is captured the following pictures of the feathery supermarket shoppers.
According to the staff of the store which Stundin interviewed stray birds sometimes do find their way into the store, but it is highly unusual to find so many birds in the store at any one time.
Animal control agents were promptly dispatched to the store to capture the birds and escort them out.
