The Vatnajökull National Park has closed several walking paths in Skaftafell natural preserve due to swelling rivers and mud. Visitors are asked to respect the closings. The park has also issued a warning to travellers not to visit ice caves in the outlet glacier of Vatnajökull glacier, as these have become unstable due to warming temperatures.
All responsible ice-cave tour operators are not offering tours until the season starts again next November.
The park notes that other glacier activities is still being offered by tour operators, including hikes and snowmobile tours.
