Trails around Seljalandsfoss waterfall, South Iceland, are extremely slick with ice, according to Fréttablaðið. Visitors at the popular tourist destination have been warned not to venture behind the waterfall as the trail is covered in ice.

Meredith McCormac and Matt Leonard, from the US, were part of a guided tour visiting the waterfall yesterday, Wednesday. The group’s guide had equipped them with shoe spikes so the couple had no trouble hiking up to the waterfall.

“The steps down were the most difficult,” the couple told Fréttablaðið’s reporter.

Warning signs have been erected around the tourist spot warning guests against hiking behind the waterfall due to icy trails. According to local guides most visitors fully comply.
