The best polar bear-scary sheep joke we at Iceland Insider have seen was created by local man Jón Már, who created the above Facebook meme of the terrifying non-sheep ókindin: In Icelandic ókind means monster, and can be used to refer both to mythical and real monsters. When Jaws was released in Icelandic cinemas its title was translated as ókindin. But translated literally ókind means non-sheep: The prefix ó means non- or not-, while kind is the word for sheep. In other words the Icelandic term for monster is literally non-sheep. Which makes sense. There are few if any animals which are less monstrous and less terrifying or scary than sheep: MEEE!
