Footpaths in the much-visited Geysir geothermal area have been left dangerously icy after winter storms have brought rain, sleet and frost to the area. Guide Hildur Þöll Ágústsdóttir criticises land owners for not properly maintaining paths in one of Iceland’s most popular tourist destinations.

According to the National Broadcasting Service, RÚV, a number of tourists have been badly injured after falling over on an icy footpath in the Geysir area.

“The paths are incredibly slippery and those responsible have done nothing to prevent further accidents. I can’t understand why they haven’t sorted it out by sanding the paths,” Hildur Þöll said.
