Passenger traffic to and from Iceland is expected to increase by 40% this summer, reports travel website Turisti.is. 21 airlines will fly to Keflavík Airport in the upcoming summer season, offering some 2.8 million seats, compared to 2 million seats in 2015. The number of foreign guests visiting Iceland is therefore expected to increase further.
Local airlines Icelandair and Wow Air will carry 80 percent of the passenger load to and from the country.
Wow Air offers direct flights between Keflavík Airport and Los Angeles and San Francisco this summer, the first Icelandic airline to do so.
American carrier Delta Air Lines began their nonstop service between Iceland and the US in mid-February, three months earlier than scheduled. The airline will be adding a direct route between Minneapolis/St. Paul in May.
