Due to dangerous driving conditions caused by the violent storm which is passing over Iceland the Road and Coastal Authority has closed down several parts of the Ring Road and other roads which pass over heaths or through mountain passes. The IRCA expects the roads to remain closed until noon. Orange and Yellow weather warnings are in effect for North Iceland until 13:00 (1 pm).

The IRCA closed down parts of the Ring Road yesterday evening. The closings were expanded as the weather deteriorated and drivers ran into trouble. More than a hundred vehicles were stranded on the Ring Road between the Capital Region and South Iceland. More than 90 members of ICE-SAR companies in South West Iceland assisted the drivers.
The Metropolitan Public Transit Strætó has canceled all routes out of the Capital Region this morning. The public transit schedule is expected to return to normal in the afternoon.
