The road between Reykjavík and Þingvellir National Park has been closed due to near zero visibility, high wind and snowfall. A traffic jam had formed on the heath as dozens of vehicles had gotten stuck in the snow. ICE-SAR is currently assisting travellers who are stuck on the heath.

The Icelandic Meteorological Office declared a Yellow Weather Alert for West and North West Iceland effective from 12 at noon until 18:00 (6 pm) today, Tuesday. The IMO warns of difficult driving conditions and poor visibility due to northwesterly winds (13-20 m/s / 29-45 mph) with blowing snow.
