Severe Weather Alerts have been issued for all of SE, S and W Iceland tomorrow afternoon, Thursday January 11. Orange Weather Alerts are in effect for the Capital Region, the South East, Soth West and parts of West Iceland. Travellers are asked to revise their travel plans accordingly.
A south-easterly severe gale, with dangerously powerful windgusts are expected around Faxaflói bay in West Iceland, strong to severe gales in the rest of West Iceland, in the Central Highlands and in South Iceland, and strong gales and heavy rain in the South East make for less than ideal travel conditions.
Second storm this week
A severe storm on Monday caused significant disruption. All available ICE-SAR units int he metropolitan area spent the morning helping homeowners and businesses securing loose objects, and all international flights were cancelled at Keflavík Airport.

ICE-SAR has also issued travel alerts for tomorrow, asking travellers to show caution and slow down while driving:
Wind gusts over 35 m/s (80 mph, 130 km/h) expected in afternoon from Reykjavík to Skógar, on Reykjanes peninsula, Snæfellsnes peninsula and Reykjavík to Hvammstangi! SLOW DOWN near mountains!
The weather alert for the Faxaflói region, including the Metropolitan Area is in effect from 16:30 Thursday afternoon until early evening Thursday. Yellow weather alerts are in effect for the rest of West Iceland and South Iceland from Thursday evening at 18:00 until midnight.
