Historic approval rating
According to the poll 85% of voters are pleased or very pleased with the President and 12.2% say they are neither happy nor unhappy. The 85% approval rating is the highest presidential approval ratings the polling firm has recorded. Guðni's approval rating has been climbing steadily in the MMR poll since the 2016 June 25 elections. Shortly after Guðni was sworn in, on August 1, his approval rating was 68.6%, with 6.4% saying they were unhappy about the president.
A December poll by the local TV station Stöð 2, which asked voters about their opinion of Guðni's first six months in office revealed that 97% of voters approved of the president.

The poll reveals that the president enjoys a rather broad across-the board support from all segments of society. However, women are somewhat more likely to approve of his job. 80% of men were happy with Guðni, compared to 91% of women. Those least likely to support him were the voters of the socially conservative center-right Progress party, and managers and high officials.
