Guðni's approval rating has been climbing steadily in the MMR poll since the 2016 June 25 elections. Shortly after Guðni was sworn in, on August 1, his approval rating was 68.6%, with 6.4% saying they were unhappy about the president.

The poll reveals that the president enjoys a rather broad across-the board support from all segments of society. However, women are somewhat more likely to approve of his job. 80% of men were happy with Guðni, compared to 91% of women. Those least likely to support him were the voters of the socially conservative center-right Progress party, and managers and high officials.
