The Ring Road west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur village in South East Iceland is closed after a serious bus accident. A tour bus carrying more than 45 Chinese travellers skidded off the road, rolling over. The bus landed on its side on the side of the road. At least two passengers were pinned beneath the bus after being thrown out of the vehicle.

At least one passenger died in the crash and seven were seriously injured in the crash. Several passengers suffered minor injuries. All the passengers on the bus were Chinese nationals. Thirty six travellers who were not seriously injured were taken to a crisis center in Kirkjubæjarklaustur village.
The accident took place at 11:03 this morning six kilometers (3.7 mi) west of Kirkjubæjarklaustur village. The Ring Road between Meðallandsvegur road and Kirkjubæjarklaustur has been closed. Traffic is being rerouted along Meðallandsvegur.
All available first responders have been sent to the scene. Two rescue helicopters from the Icelandic Coast Guard have also been sent to the scene, and a translator from the Chinese Embassy in Iceland is on his way to the scene.
