SGS is built up of 19 trade unions and has around 53.000 members. SGS’s member unions operate within the food and agriculture industry, building and construction, service and tourism industry, and public services. The strike actions will therefore affect public transport and the tourism sector.
SGS’s strike actions add further strain on Iceland’s labour market as the Iceland Association of Academics (BHM) is currently on strike. Additionally, members of VR will vote on strike actions in May.
Unions on strike or planning to strike:
Flóabandalagið 21.000 members
Starfsgreinasambandið 10.000 members
BHM 3.000 members
VR 30.000 members
LÍV 5.000 members
