On the rise: House prices surge in central Reykjavík 2833

House prices in Reykjavík rose between 2.4 and 4.1 million ISK (16.657 Euros/18.847 USD to 28.456 Euros/32.197 USD) in one year, according to information compiled by Registers Iceland for Morgunblaðið newspaper.

Central Reykjavík saw the biggest surge in house prices, where the average price per square metre is now 400 thousand ISK (2.776 Euros/ 3.141 USD).

One square metre of property in postal code 101 (down-town Reykjavík) has risen by 150 thousand ISK (1.041 Euros/1.178 USD) since the first quarter of 2010. A 100 square metre flat (1076 sq ft) in the sought after neighbourhood now costs 15 million ISK (104.108 Euros/ 117.794 USD) more than it did in 2010.
