The development of the area next to the customs building by Reykjavík harbour is expected to be completed in 2018, reports the National Broadcasting Service. The area, called Hafnartorg, or Harbour Square, will include apartment and offices as well as shops and restaurants on the ground floor.
Landstólpar þróunarfélag and PK arkitektar co-designed the seven buildings that will comprise Hafnartorg. According to Gísli Steinar Gíslason, Landstólpar þróunarfélag's chairman, many businesses, international and local, have already shown a keen interest in the location.
An old harbour wall that emerged from under the concrete when construction work began is set to be reconstructed in the square’s underground parking and will be visible from a pedestrian street that will run through the area.
