Observe nesting birds in Vatnsmýrin moorland through the Nordic House‘s webcam 745

Bird enthusiasts can soon observe nesting birds in Vatnsmýrin moorland through the Nordic House‘s webcam. The Nordic House is located in Vatnsmýri moorland and nature reserve which serves as nesting ground for migrating birds. The area is becomes teeming with bird life in spring and summer.

Vatnsmýrin was designated a Nature Conservation area in 1981 and covers an area around 37,026 square metres (398,540 sq ft) in size. 83 species of vascular plants have been documented in the area.

The Nordic House was designed in 1968 by the acclaimed Finnish architect Alvar Aalto. It features most of Aalto’s signature traits and inside you’ll find the Aalto Bistro, which serves great-tasting food and has a lovely view over the beautiful Vatnsmýri moor.

The centre houses a great deal of interesting art exhibitions, concerts and other happenings which are advertised on its website nordichouse.is.

A visit to the Nordic House is highly recommended for families with children as the house boasts a fantastic children’s library and its surroundings includes a lovely playground and walking paths. The Nordic House also offers a number of culture events for children throughout the year.
