The annual music festival Iceland Airwaves officially begins in Reykjavík on Wednesday (2 November). Tickets to the festival are still available but there are also countless free of charge off-venue concerts (link to schedule) taking place all over the capital this week.
Almost every bar, coffee house, and shop in and around downtown Reykjavík become concert venues during Iceland Airwaves.
Iceland Insider's favourite hang-out during the festival is the bar and restaurant at Kex Hostel where Seattle’s KEXP radio station hosts a series of live concerts. The food is solid, the selection of beer at Kex is excellent and admission is free, just be sure to show up early.
This is the sixth consecutive year that KEXP, Kex Hostel, Iceland Naturally and Iceland Airwaves join forces and present a week of great music and good times at the downtown hostel.
If you are not in Reykjavík you can tune in and listen at kexp.org. Here is the schedule. (IS=Iceland, PL=Poland)
