The Icelandic economy has changed significantly in the past ten years, the latest labor market figures from Statistics Iceland reveal. The tourism industry has registered the largest increase of any sector, while the largest decrease took place in banking, finance and insurance.

The number of people employed in the hospitality industry, including accommodation and restaurants grew by 97%, while the number of people employed in finance and industry dropped by 28%. Employment in the entire tourism industry and related activities increased by 98.5% in the past 10 years.
It is not only finance and insurance which has seen a drop in employment numbers. The number of people employed in fishing and agriculture has dropped by 2.9%. Fisheries and agriculture only employs 3.7% of the workforce.
