“I almost never wear shoes anymore. In winter, when there is much slush or salt on the streets I’ll put on felted woollen socks – they’re the most durable kind,” says musician Kristófer Kvaran who prefers to go barefoot – no matter the season.
According to Vísir, Kristófer, who works as kindergarten teacher, decided to ditch shoes completely after taking up barefoot running (the act of jogging without footwear).
“At first I only wore shoes during in winter. But I like to push my limits so now I’ll also go barefoot in winter,” he says. Adding: “Going barefoot makes me feel more connected to nature and my surroundings and it becomes quite addictive.”
Understandably, Kristófer unwillingly becomes the centre of attention wherever he goes. He admits he dislikes it when strangers take his picture without asking permission. “Most people find it amusing but there are always a few souls that feel outraged. Sometimes people will snicker and try and take a photo without my permission, which I don’t like. I’m always willing to pose for a photo if people only ask,” he concludes.
