Temperatures will become very cool this week, according to the IMO’s weather forecast, and snow showers will continue through the week.
Yesterday, residents of Ísafjörður, the unofficial capital of the Westfjords, celebrated “sólardagurinn”, or sun day. The fishing village is surrounded by high mountains and from around 24 November each year the sun will not rise above the tall mountain tops. Villagers celebrate the sun’s return in late January, when the sun finally rises high enough to be seen.
While the sun stayed hidden behind thick clouds, residents celebrated its return with their annual “sólarkaffi” (sun coffee).
