The road was closed for a couple of hours while the bus was removed from the site of the accident.

The Icelandic Road and Coastal Authority had warned drivers of slick and icy conditions on roads over the weekend. The road was covered in ice and packed snow when the accident took place.

The passengers were offered shelter in a second tour bus which arrived at the scene while they waited for a bus from the tour company to pick them up and drive them to their destinations.
