Stanley Tucci, Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston and Sofie Grabol star in SKY Atlantic’s brand new television series Fortitude, which was shot in Reyðarfjörður village, East Iceland as well as the United Kingdom.
Icelanders are excited to see the show due to the big role Iceland gets to play in the production. Reyðarfjörður is a beautiful, but isolated town in the Northeastern fjords of the country. The Fortitude production does a great job showcasing the beauty of the town, and the breathtaking scenery almost plays its own role in the series.
Another positive from the filming was the significant Icelandic influence in the production. Around eighty Icelanders were involved in production as well as countless extras. The staff all stayed in hotels around the town and twenty houses were rented for the cast – helping to spur the local economy. Egilsstadir Airport was also used as a stage and Björn Hlynur Haraldsson, the Icelandic actor, will feature in the series.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at the filming in Iceland. The series is expected to debut in January 2015.
