A new seafood restaurant, named Messinn, is set to open at Lækjargata 6 next month. The bistro, owned by entrepreneur Jón Mýrdal, who also operates bars Bravó and Húrra, is inspired by renowned restaurant Tjöruhúsið in Ísafjörður, Westfjords. Jón is closely related to Tjöruhúsið’s owner and head chef, Maggi.

“We wanted to capture the spirit of Tjöruhúsið and bring it to Reykjavík. Maggi has given us the go-ahead and even intends to visit us this summer and cook for our guests,” Jón told Fréttatíminn newspaper.

Messinn’s interior has a nautical theme to it and is decorated with portholes and anchors. The menu offers “no nonsense” seafood at a reasonable price. “I, myself, don’t need to be serves seven courses when I go out for dinner. At Messinn we’ll serve fresh fish in a pan, plain and simple,” Jón concludes.
