New poll: A huge majority of Icelanders don’t buy whale meat 215

According to a new Gallup opinion poll, a huge majority of Icelanders don’t buy whale meat. When asked: “Have you bought whale meat in the last twelve months?”, 81.7% answered no. Only 3% said that they had bought whale meat six times or more in the last twelve months.

The poll was conducted in October for the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and the Iceland Nature Conservation Association (INCA).

According to the survey, local support for whale hunting is at its lowest since 2005, with less than half of participants supporting hunting of fin whales, or 42,6% compared to 56,9% in October 2013.
