The leaders of political parties the Social Democratic Alliance, Bright Future, Pirates and the Left Green Party met yesterday to discuss the possibility of the four parties forming a coalition city government in Reykjavík.
Before the election on Saturday Dagur B. Eggertsson, SDA, and S. Björn Blöndal, BF, had both publicly expressed interest in an ongoing collaboration between the two parties, which are thought by many to have run the city reasonably well during the past four years.
However, it became clear yesterday morning that the current city council had fallen and a new one needed to be formed with a third party. SDA reached out to the Left Green Party and Pirates, which both got one man elected, for further negotiations – leaving the Progressive Party and the Independent Party out in the cold. Should the four party leaders come to an agreement, a new majority might be formed by the end of the day.
