A crew from the National Broadcasting Service seized the opportunity presented by yesterday's splendid weather and filmed the volcanic eruption in Holuhraun from above. The great video on RÚV‘s website shows the relentless force of the eruption that began August 29th. The crater, named Baugur, is around 100 meters (328 ft.) high and is at least 400 meters (1,312 ft.) long and 100 meters (328 ft.) wide.

Inside Baugur is this bubbling red-orange lake of lava that turns into a massive river of lava when it overflows the crater's lower northeast ledge. The new lava field now covers more than 72 square km (27.80 sq mi).

The Icelandic Met Office reports today that seismic activity in the Bárðarbunga area and is comparable to previous days. No earthquake reached magnitude 5. The strongest earthquakes were M4.5 this morning at 03.09, at 03.18 and an earthquake of magnitude 4.6 struck now at 09.35.
