New bishop appointed over the Catholic parish in Reykjavík 2823

Dávid Tencer has been appointed the new Bishop of Reykjavík after Peter Bürcher’s resignation due to health reasons, the Catholic Church of Iceland has announced.

Bishop Bürcher will remain in charge of the Diocese with all the rights and duties until the investiture of his successor takes place on the 31st of October. The new bishop originates from Slovakia and has been living in Iceland since 2004. He served as parish vicar priest in Stella Maris parish in the Reykjavik suburb of Breiðholt until 2007, when he became parish priest in St. Thorlac parish in Reyðarfjörður, East Iceland.
