The lagoon itself will not be expanded, only the visitor center and restaurant. Guðmundur Þór Birgisson, the CEO of the Nature Bath told the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service that the goal is to be able to offer guests better service, for example by offering little less cramped changing rooms.

Last year the Blue Lagoon was similarly updated and expanded to accommodate a growing number of visitors. Nearly one million people visited the Blue Lagoon in 2016.
