MPs propose for the third time that gambling be legalised in Iceland 220

Willum Þór Þórsson, a member of the Progressive Party, proposed for the third time that gambling be legalised in Iceland. The MP’s proposal is backed up by twelve other members of parliament.

According to the National Broadcasting Service, the bill’s supporters argue that gambling should be legalised and taxed just like small lotteries and slot machines. This could also generate some revenues for the government, they claim, and form a better basis for discussion regarding problems linked with compulsive gambling.

The MP also points out that some Icelanders already partake in illegal online gambling and legalising casinos might curtail such activity.
