Motorists advised to show caution when driving today 1788

The powerful winter storm that hit Iceland yesterday is now in decline. The severe weather did not wreck too much havoc as most homeowners had been well prepared. Travel conditions continue to be risky and motorists are advised to show extra care when driving today.

Icy patches and hail is to be expected in South Iceland and Reykjanes peninsula today.

Ice is reported on roads in Hvalfjörður fjord and roads across West Iceland.

Expect heavy winds, ice and snow in the Westfjords. A blizzard is reported on Steingrímsfjarðarheiði mountain road, Westfjords.

Blasts of wind are to be expected on Siglufjörður road in North Iceland. Drivers are w36arned of ice on Öxnadalsheiði mountain road and in Þingeyjarsýsla.  

Road conditions in East Iceland are good but motorists are advised to show caution when driving from Öræfi to Vík due to snow and ice on roads.
