According to Channel 2 News the most accurate map of Iceland ever produced is now available. Satellite imagery was used to create the amazing 3D map. A univeristy in Munchen, various German based companies and the Icelandic mapping company Fjarkönnun worked together to develop the map.
Ágúst Guðmundsson, who works at Fjarkönnun, says the satellite and 3D technology has become so advanced that the map‘s percision is down to mere ten centimetres. This means researches can now monitor the slightest change in glacier mass, coastlines and changes in landscape which follow a volcanic eruption.
Viewers can now fly over a virtual Iceland and enjoy its “natural” beauty. Watch the video here.
