Residents in southwest Iceland reported thunder and lightning during Sunday’s rainstorm, an rare occurrence in Iceland. The IMO warned more lightning could strike in the next couple of days.

Around 8 lightning strikes were recorded in Reykjanes peninsula and south of Þorlákshöfn, meteorologist Þorsteinn V. Jónsson told Vísir.

More rain is expected in the southwest and west today, Monday, with thunder and lightning continuing in the area. Bright and sunny periods expected in the northeast. Minimum temperature -1 degrees Celsius (30 Fahrenheit) in the east.
