Overnight stays in hotels in November 2017 were 304,035. This is almost the exact same number as in November 2016, when the number of overnight stays was 303,831. 69% of all overnight stays were in the Capital region, a 4% decrease compared with the previous year. The number of overnight stays increased in the North (15%), Southwest (12%) and South (10%) Iceland.
Data from Statistics Iceland shows that nights spent by foreign tourists accounted for 89% of the total number of overnight stays in November. Most were from the UK (86,500), followed by the USA (74,900) and Germany (11,900). Overnight stays of Icelanders in November were 33,800.

Over the last twelve months, from December 2016 to November 2017, overnight stays in hotels were 4,251,000, which is an increase of approximately 13% compared with the previous year.
Economists at Landsbankinn bank point out that while the number of overnight stays at hotels and registered guesthouses stayed unchanged there are strong indications that overnight stays at Airbnbs increased significantly. Landsbankinn estimates that the supply of Airbnb's increased by 11% year over year.
