More popular tourist attractions add parking fees: Access to Reynisfjara beach still free, parking not 4415

Soon visitors to Reynisfjara beach in south Iceland will have to pay for parking at the parking lots by the beach. According to the local business newspaper Viðskiptablaðið, a company which operates the restaurant Svartafjara by the Reynisfjara beach, and is thus responsible for parking lots which are used by travellers visiting the beach, intends to install parking meters this summer. According to Viðskiptablaðið the parking meters will look like basalt columns, allowing them to disappear into their surroundings.

Reynisfjara is only the latest popular tourist destination to add parking meters. Last summer plans were announced to add parking meters by Seljalandsfoss waterfall, and Þingvellir National Park is introducing parking fees this spring.
