More landslides expected to occur in Dyrhólaey, South Iceland 201

The Environmental Agency of Iceland decided to close off parts of Dyrhólaey peninsula, South Iceland, after Monday’s landslide.

According to the National Broadcasting Service, the landslide was around 80 metres (262 feet) wide. It swallowed part of a hiking trail leading to the peninsula’s edge, leaving a huge gap in the surface.

More landslides are expected to fall in Dyrhólaey and yesterday the Selfoss Police Department taped off the area around the rift.

In 2012 two travellers were badly injured in a large landslide that occurred in the same vicinity as the one that fell on Monday.
