According to a study by the local news site turisti.is renting a car at Keflavík International Airport is 58% more expensive than at the next most expensive major airport in Europe. Previous comparisons of prices of car rentals operating at 20 major airports have consistently demonstrated that car rentals at Keflavík are by the most expensive in Europe.
The study, which was performed on March 30 and 31, looked at the lowest posted prices for a two week rental during the last two weeks in June, July and August. In every case the rental included unlimited mileage and a no-fault insurance. According to turisti.is the average cost per day renting a car in Keflavík was 8,932 ISK (72.5 USD/64 EUR)) compared to 5,031 ISK (41 USD/36 EUR) in Oslo.

Out of the 20 airports studied by turisti.is the lowest prices for car rentals were in Amsterdam, where the average daily cost for the cheapest option available was 1,753 ISK (14 USD/12.5 EUR), which means renting a car in Keflavík is as much as 410% more expensive than renting a car at other major European airports.
