Yesterday it was revealed that a red Kia Rio which the Metropolitan Police had been searching for in connection to the case had been found in the suburban municipality Kópavogur. The car had been rented to sailors on the Greenlandic trawler Polar Nanuq which was docked in Hafnarfjörður, where the last signal from Birna's mobile phone was detected.
Birna's shoes were found a short distance from where the trawler was docked. Circumstantial evidence points strongly to Brynja having entered the car on Laugavegur in downtown Reykjavík seconds after she disappears from CCTV footage.
