Yesterday, Sunday, police and search and rescue teams in West Iceland conducted an extensive search for two foreign travellers who had been reported missing after one of them failed to return a rental car at the right time.
A search was initiated when the men had failed to return their rental car on Saturday and missed their flight from Keflavík Airport on Sunday, the locl news site visir.is reports. Their car was then found near Löngufjörur beach on the southern Snæfellsnes peninsula in West Iceland. All Search and Rescue teams in West Iceland participated in the search which lasted a few hours. Shortly after six in the afternoon the missing traveller was found on Langasandur beach, not far from where his car had been found earlier. The man was dead when he was found.
The cause of death is not clear, but according to the Police in West Iceland there is no indication of foul play. The nationality or identity of the traveller have yet to be released.
