“Flóki is very attentive and curious and loves sticking his nose in everybody’s business,” says farmer Þorgrímur Guðbjartsson.

Þorgrímur, who runs the dairy farm Erpsstaðir with his wife Helga Elínborg Guðmundsdóttir, took on the task of hand-rearing a raven chick found in an abandoned nest at the beginning of summer and was brought to the farm. Now, Flóki the raven has made quite a reputation for himself for his playful nature and misconduct.

Þorgrímur told Vísir.is that the bird will leave a trail of loot around the farm yard each day. “He always has something in his beak. He’ll discard whatever it is he has in his pecker as soon as he finds something more exciting, so one can always follow his trail.”

Although mischievous, Flóki follows a strict daily routine and goes to sleep every evening at 9 pm on a fence located outside the couple’s bedroom window.

“He’ll fly off at around 5 am but will return an hour later. At the end of the day, he’ll fly home ahead of us and wait outside the front door.”

Erpsstaðir is located in Búðardalur in West Iceland. Besides raising livestock, the couple produces dairy products such as the popular ice-cream brand Kjaftæði, cheese, and delicious treats made from skyr. The couple also offers accommodation and invites visitors to partake in every-day tasks on the farm.
