“I’ve been told tourists in Iceland have become increasingly aggressive; wishing to mingle with locals and experience new adventures. That’s why, in hindsight anyway, I wasn’t surprised to wake up this morning to find a tourist fast asleep on my couch”.
So began Teitur Björn Einarsson’s Facebook post. Teitur, who works as the minister of finance’s assistant, had an amusing encounter with a confused visitor who had arrived in Iceland that night. The woman, who was to spend the night on the upstairs neighbour’s couch, had entered the wrong apartment.
“I made light of the matter, told her she was at the right place but the wrong apartment and that it was pure coincidence that we had forgotten to lock our front door. I then offered to call my neighbour, who arrived moments later to pick up her lost tourist. The guest apologised sincerely and thanked me for my hospitality. I instead welcomed her to Iceland. Those tourists, man!”
