Mikki the fox cub has charmed guests staying at the Heydalur Guesthouse in Mjóidalur valley, Westfjords, this summer. The fox plays with Stella‘s two dogs and entertains guests, although, Stella warns, he‘s quite the kleptomaniac.
“He steals everything he can sink his teeth into, so guests have to be careful not to leave any of their belongings laying around. He’s also prone to jump into open cars and make off with hats, socks, and gloves. He’ll hide the loot underneath a nearby cottage, so it’s impossible for people to recover their stuff,” guesthouse-owner Stella Guðmundsdóttir told Vísir.
Mikki refur hefur síðustu mánuðina vakið mikla kátínu meðal gesta í Heydal. Hér má sjá Mikka leika sér við heimilishundinn og Stellu segja okkur aðeins frá.

A hunter brought cub to Stella this spring, making this the fourth time she rears an orphaned fox cub. Stella says the animal will eventually and instinctively return to the wild.
“I don’t know how he’ll fare in the wild. Hand reared foxes associate people with food and won’t fear them. This makes them vulnerable when hunting season starts.”
