Migrating birds have begun to return to nesting grounds in Iceland, reports the National Broadcasting Service. Two breeds of migrating birds have never been spotted in the country before.
According to bird-watchers a couple of Slavonian grebes arrived at Kaldbakstjarnir lakes near the town of Húsavík in north Iceland last week. A Great skua has also been spotted around Jökulsárlón glacial lake in south east Iceland.
A Little ringed plover was seen in Iceland for the very first time. The bird was spotted in the town of Garður on the Reykjanes peninsula. Another new guest, a Caspian gull, was discovered in Höfn in Hornafjörður fjord yesterday.
The arrival of these “early birds” can only mean one thing: That spring is just around the corner.
