A tourist who fell gravely ill by Svartifoss waterfall in Skaftafell natural preserve was rescued by members of ICE-SAR this morning. They attended to the man before carrying him some way down to a road where an ambulance could reach and get him, according to local news site Mbl.is.
Skaftafell is part of the Vatnajökull National Park in South Iceland. Svartifoss waterfall flows over a drop of about 20 meters between columns of black basalt and is by many considered to be one of Iceland's most beautiful waterfalls. It sits around 2.5 kilometers uphill from the Skaftafell Visitor Center.
