The protesters demand that the Prime Minister of Iceland, Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson, resign and call for elections. A Facebook page set up to coordinate the protests than 8,000 people indicating they will attend the protest. An online petition calling on the PM to resign has more than 23,000 signatures.
Graffiti, banners and protest signs calling on the Prime Minister resign and encouraging people to come to the protests today has appeared around Reykjavík and the Capital region.
A motion of no-confidence
The leaders of the Pirate party, the left wing Social Democratic Alliance and Left Green Movement, and centrist Bright future have announced they will offer a motion of no-confidence in parliament today, according to the sources of the local news site visir.is.
