Majority of Icelanders want shamed PM Sigmundur Davíð to resign 4596

A majority of Icelanders wish for Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson to resign, reports the National Broadcasting Service.

A new survey, conducted by Gallup on Monday and Tuesday, suggests that 81 % of Iceland’s voting public wants Sigmundur Davíð to resign, while 19 % believe he should stay on as the country’s Prime Minister.

The survey found that more women than men wanted the shamed Prime Minister to resign. 14 % of the Progressive Party’s followers (Framsóknarflokkurinn), Sigmundur Davíð’s party, want the PM to step down, 56 % of the followers of the Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn), which forms the coalition government along with the Progressive Party, want Sigmundur Davíð to leave post. Nearly all of the opposition’s supporters want the PM to resign.
