A new study conducted by the Social Science Reasearch Institute at the National University shows that the majority of Icelanders consider same sex parents as competent as heterosexual parents, reports Mbl.is.

70 percent of those surveyed in Iceland answered that they consider a single parent as competent as two parents in raising a child. 80 percent believed that same sex partners are as competent as heterosexual partners in raising a child.

The international study focused on sexual orientation and upbringing and was conducted in 48 countries. The findings were presented at an annual research conference in social sciences in October at the National University.
