A new poll shows that just about half of foreign visitors try Icelandic lamb meat during their stay. Sheep farmers who have suffered significant economic hardship in recent years have placed significant hopes on a growing market for lamb meat among foreign visitors.

The poll shows that 50% of foreign visitors have ordered lamb meat at restaurants while 13% say they have bought lamb meat at a grocery store during their stay. The two groups overlap, as just 54% say they have sampled lamb meat during their stay.

The study also found that just a quarter of foreign visitors say they are familiar with the brand Icelandic Lamb, which sheep farmers have used to market their product.
