Longevity: Iceland has a new 4th oldest person ever 960

Guðríður Guðbrandsdóttir celebrated her 108th birthday in May, making her the fourth oldest Icelander ever. Previously, Halldóra Bjarnadóttir from Blönduós, who died in 1981, had been the fourth oldest Icelander ever. In total Guðríður has over 56 descendants and recently celebrated her birthday and in an interview with Morgunblaðið, she stated that has to be careful about not listening to audiobooks too much otherwise she does not get enough exercise.

Only three Icelandic women have lived longer than Guðríður; these women are Guðrún Björnsdóttir who died in Canada, Sólveig Pálsdóttir from Hornafjörður and Guðfinna Einarsdóttir in Reykjavík. All of these aforementioned women reached the age of 109.

The record oldest living male belongs to Helgi Sím­on­ar­son from Svarfaðar­dalur who reached the age of 106; nonetheless George Ólafsson who lives in Stykkishólmur is now the oldest living male at the tender age of 105.
