Passengers departing from Keflavík International Airport are advised to arrive at the airport three hours before departure to avoid long queues forming at check-in during rush-hour. However, according to the National Broadcasting Service, this has not prevented alarmingly long queues forming at check-in as the process sometimes does not begin until two hours before departure.
“We cannot dictate when check-in begins, that’s up to the airlines,” said Gunnar Sigurðsson, spokesperson for Isavia, the company that operates all public airports and air navigation services in a vast area in the north-eastern Atlantic.
Rush hour happens in the early mornings, late afternoon and, during high season, late in the morning and at around midnight. “Check-in has been quite efficient despite the added stress,” Gunnar concludes.
